VW cylinder heads are the best "bang for your buck" on increasing horsepower in your Volkswagen engine. This is because horsepower comes primarily from two things:

- The size of the engine itself; - bigger is always more horsepower;
- and the air flow of the heads.

Engine size can't be changed without installing larger pistons and barrels or a stroker crank... but, new vw cylinder heads can be changed without splitting the engine case.

This question has as many answers as there are unique VW engine setups on earth... but as general guidelines, Mofoco recommends:

Mofoco 041 VW Head, the next step up from stock vw heads meant for engines up to 1679cc... these are for everyone looking for close to stock performance, while solving the infamous "bogging" issues caused by Volkswagen's original design, along with several other MOFOCO designed improvements, such as more & better placed cooling fins.

Mofoco 042 VW Head is made for literally any air cooled VW owner who wishes to have some extra horsepower in reserve, great cooling, and overall higher street performance... Hot VWs rated the Mofoco 042 as the highest flowing unported VW heads available! These will work on any size engine over 1600cc, however for the big and bad 2180cc or larger engines, Mofoco recommends...

Quality takes time...

Mofoco performance VW heads are custom built to order! Manufacturing time is normally 1-2 weeks on standard performance heads. Sometimes, a customer ordered Mofoco heads, then later changed their mind, so we have Mofoco performance heads fully assembled & ready for next day shipment. Porting and polishing may take an additional one or two weeks if our metalworking artists have a lot of work ahead of your heads.
