The sweet spot between horsepower and efficiency, Mofoco 042s are rated by Hot VWs magazine as the highest flowing unported heads available.
VW cylinder heads are the best "bang for your buck" on increasing horsepower in your Volkswagen engine. This is because horsepower comes primarily from two things:
- the size of the engine itself; - bigger is always more horsepower;
- and the air flow of the heads.
Engine size can't be changed without installing larger pistons and barrels or a stroker crank... but, new vw cylinder heads can be changed without splitting the engine case.
Mofoco 042 VW heads are truly the "bread and butter" performance head. Featuring 40mm intake valves and 35.5mm exhaust valves, 042s are the sweet spot between horsepower and efficiency on vw engines from 1600cc all the way up to the two litre engines. The only head that makes more power is MOFOCO's own 050 Big Valve Head... and 050s are meant for the baddest of the bad, 2180cc or 2265cc engines set up for raw horsepower!
Admit it, you want to keep your VW highly streetable, but have a little somethin' in reserve for those big shots who think they have mighty cars... and this is precisely what 042s were designed for. Hot VWs magazine compared the airflow of Mofoco 042s to several other big name competitors' 042s, and MOFOCO took the cake on not only air flow, but with our extra cooling fin design, figuratively speaking, our 042 stayed cool while everyone else's were hot enough to cook up some breakfast on! We regularly build street performance engines in our engine shop, and time and time again our Mofoco designed 042 vw heads have been the customer head of choice.
With extra cooling fins, airflow to ideally match horsepower to efficiency, and designed based off of Volkswagen original castings, this is simply the single most cost effective bolt-on performance upgrade that anyone with basic mechanic skills can accomplish.
Cast in Manitowac, Wisconsin
Machined in-house completely by Mofoco
This means the 042 is manufactured 100% in the United States... from the raw materials to make the casting, all the way to the final product to be installed on your engine. These 042 heads are not simply rebuilt off Brazil castings or made in China.
