A shortblock is basically a crankshaft, rods, cam and lifters all assembled into an engine case. The flywheel, pistons and barrels, cylinder heads, etc. are all items you must install. Fits all Beetles (1961-78), Karmann Ghias (1961-74), Things, Bus (1960-71) and Squarebacks (Type IIIs). ...Note(*) Some Buses and all Squarebacks need a T-Mount case which requires Option 15.

A longblock is the entire basic engine. Swapping of the exhaust, carburetion, ignition, clutch and sheet metal is what you need to perform in order to complete an engine exchange.
